Similar bills had been introduced last year in the Senate and House, but neither became law. Mother’s Day was officially designated on May 8, 1914 as the second Sunday in May.

The current bill proposes the production of up to 400,000 commemorative silver dollar coins. The coins would have a weight of 26.73 grams, diameter of 1.5 inches, and composition of 90% silver and 10% copper. The coins would be issued in 2014 and produced with uncirculated and proof finishes.

The required inscriptions include the value of the coin, the year “2014″, and “Liberty”, “In God We Trust”, “United States of America”, and “E Pluribus Unum”. The designs would be selected by the US Secretary of the Treasury following consultation by the CFA and review by the CCAC.
